What is Spiritual Self Care
What actually is spiritual self care and how should we practice it to find inner peace?
Spiritual self care is defined as everything we do, in order to connect to our real self and to a Higher Power and feel secured and safe.
Also spirituality aims to connect us to our deepest real self.
It’s all about spending time knowing yourself, and engaging in activities that provide you inner peace and mental health.
Practicing spiritual self care, helps nurture both the mind and the body.
It allows you to love and forgive yourself, and consequently to feel compassion and care about other people.
Spiritual self care is a necessity when aiming for wellness and personal growth in life.
But how can one practice spiritual self care? What are those spiritual practices you should follow to ensure that you are spiritually caring for yourself?
Spiritual Self Care Practices
Meditation Practice
Meditation is a great toot to help your spiritual care and growth.
Allowing 15-minutes a day to sit down and meditate, well it is an amazing way to de-stress, focus your mind and power and eventually awaken your spiritual consciousness.
This small addition in your daily morning routine, will for sure result in a dramatic change in your body, physically, mentally, and emotionally and it will finally lead to a better version of yourself.
Meditation helps you let go of the past and sink in peace while it empowers you and helps you reach your higher consciousness and real self.
Meditation techniques will teach you to breath, relax, slow down and just be. You ‘ll learn how to control your mind and thoughts that bombard you, focus within, be aware of the present moment, and learn to listen to your body and inner self.
Guided meditation also allows you to engage in visualization techniques to clear your mind of problems and your body of stress.
Yoga
Yoga is a popular form of exercise as it is believed to harmonize your mind, body and spirit. It empowers non judgement and acceptance of your self and it’s a great way of self care.
It kind of gives your spirit the message that this is me time.
This is my time to connect to myself and I’m worthy of it. I deserve this self care time, I’m important.
Following this spirit, your subconscious mind drives you to a healthier way of life. Healthier eating habits, less negative thoughts, positive mindset, greater love for life and people.
It all comes down to self acceptance and emotional strength.
Yoga helps you become more self aware and peaceful with yourself, and finally you become the same way with other people around you. More forgiving, compassionate, offering unconditional love.
Prioritize sleep
Sleep is a spiritual act as controversial as this may seem. Most of us consider sleeping to be a good way to recharge but it’s not just that.
The importance of being well rested is inevitable. People who do not get enough sleep, are more likely to have a weakened immune system, therefore catching viruses and colds more often.
Also when fatigue kicks in, people usually struggle with depression and anxiety, while they also face concentration issues and difficult relationships.
We all have experienced situations of being sleepless and in these cases it seems impossible to even do the slightest thing. We get irritated, difficult to communicate and unable to love and accept.
How can we even be able to care for others when we don’t even meet our body’s basic needs? Trying to push through exhaustion is not the way to serve God or our loved ones.
If you are struggling spirituality don’t miss the connection. Take a nap.
Take long walks in nature
A daily walk in nature is a great way to unwind, and connect to the Higher Power. It really gives you peace of mind, and allows you to just be. You stop worrying about work, bills to pay and other obligations and focus to the present moment.
In our stress-filled lives, with more to do and less time to do it, walking allows you the opportunity to slow down and be aligned, a chance to breathe and relax. A walk in nature is a way to bring your mind, body and spirit into balance.
You breath fresh air, your lungs operate more efficiently. It strengthens your heart. Walking in a purposeful way connects you to Mother Nature and its divine energy, where all started.
Volunteer
Volunteering is all about giving back to others but what most people don’t realize is that it gives back more than it takes.
If you spend some time helping others you might actually be a happier, more fulfilled person compared to others. It can help give you a sense of purpose in life while it connects you to new people as you get socially involved and also it allows you to meet the world around you.
Your feeling of self worth and self accomplishment is increasing and you get to know yourself better. What work you enjoy doing, which are your greatest strengths, what is your passion in life. You also gain valuable skills.
Volunteering makes you feel good about yourself. It provides a sense of pride and self esteem while it makes you part of a helping community, giving you a sense of belonging..
Establish a Sunday Spiritual Self Care Routine
I choose Sunday because it’s my favorite day of the week. I always find Sundays to be more bright, the most glorious day of the week. And it ‘s the perfect day to practice self care as it recharges you for the week ahead.
Sunday is my happy day but you can choose your favorite one and establish a self-care routine that nurtures your soul and fills your life with happiness. A day full of loving actions towards yourself and others.
Exercise
To kick start your day try to establish a morning exercise routine followed by meditation. Sunday is a good day for morning routines, as it is more relaxed and there is no time pressure.
Morning exercise is the perfect way to boost your energy, improve your mood and start your day in a feeling of accomplishment.
Allow for 15 therapeutic minutes of meditation. Feel grateful for the day ahead and focus your intention on making it a good day for you.
Have a healthy snack
A self care routine requires showing your body the love it deserves by feeding it healthy and nourishing food. There are countless options for you to choose from, but always choose healthy.
You need something to boost your body, and give you all healthy nutrients. A green smoothie is a perfect option. Remember you are practicing self care, you deserve the best.
Take a long hot bath
Melt away your weekly worries with a long soak in a hot bath. Add some drops of your favorite essential oil, and enjoy their therapeutic properties.
Oils made from plant extracts are used for a multitude of physical and psychological circumstances. Skin issues, inflammation, muscle aches, insomnia, and stress are but a few conditions that have been historically treated with essential oils.
Ylang-Ylang,Lavender, Rose, or Sandalwood are the perfect essential oils for stress and anxiety reduction, they are also thought to be calming for your skin, muscles and nervous system.
Spending some time in a hot bath will give you time to contemplate the day, reflect, and catch up with yourself. It’s your time to relax, unwind and recharge.
You can also light a few candles if you like, fill the tab, add some drops of your favorite essential oils, and enjoy your time in heaven.
Write a gratitude journal
Allow for some time to reflect on your life and write a gratitude journal. List all things in your life that you love and make you happy. Brainstorm and list everything that you feel grateful about. You can even write about something that you want and don’t yet have, but in a positive spirit.
Also summing up the highs of the week past makes the prospect of Monday seem much more bearable and sometimes exciting.
Spend a little time to plan for the week ahead. What are you excited to do during the week ahead. What are your goals?
Schedule some fun activities with your family, maybe a date with friends, a visit to your parents. Also schedule all chores and obligations for the week ahead. Are there any bills that need paying or are there groceries that need buying?
Have a cup of tea while reading a book
Reading is a great way for relieving stress. You get absorbed into another world which destructs you from daily stressors. It lowers your heart rate, easing the tension in your muscles.
Everything you read adds up to your knowledge and the more knowledge you have, the better-equipped you are to tackle any challenge you’ll ever face. Also you get smarter! Amazingly when you read a book you strengthen your existing memory and increase your brain power.
And if you need something to boost your focus power, then reading is the thing for you. It helps you concentrate your mind and the rest of the world just fades away.
Tea on the other hand is known for its relaxing qualities. Researchers have found that drinking tea lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol, therefore in the long term it seems to lower the risk of developing depression..
It also has antioxidant power and may help against free radicals that can contribute to cancer, heart disease, and clogged arteries.
Most teas also have caffeine, which affect the brain and seem to heighten mental alertness.
Reading a book while enjoying a cup of tea is a great self care routine. Try it.
How to find yourself spiritually
Pay attention to your emotions – concentrate your powers and do more of what feels right and good
Focus on what you really want in life – listen to your instincts and go for your dream life
Acknowledge your core needs – listen more to your heart and less to your mind
Release guild – forgive yourself about all that you consider mistakes, they were decisions based on the current facts
Evaluate your upbringing experiences – evaluate what made you the person you are today, and work towards changing everything you don’t like, recreate yourself
Be truthful – stop pretending to be someone else, speak your truth fearlessly, honor yourself
Build strong relationships and connections with loved ones – make yourself available to help others, be a good listener, share your deepest worries and wishes. Choose your people and give (and take) unconditional love.
